Note: Access and review all policies listed in the Student Handbook or Faculty Handbook, when answering the scenario questions.

      • Joseph Brea completed an 8-week eCourse, he earned a 2.50 GPA the first time and was placed on academic probation. The second time he earned a 2.98 GPA. If he took the eCourse a third time. How much would he pay in retake fees?
      • If he received a 3.40 GPA after the third time taking the eCourse, what happens to his academic standing?

      He will pay $800.

Probation is lifted after the successful completion.

It looks to me like Joseph would have to pay $100 for the third course, and then once he pulled his grades up to 3.4, his probation should be lifted.

        June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #5156

If Joseph does not pass the eCourse after the second attempt. On the third time taking the eCourse, he would be required to pay the retake fee of $100 per week for the eCourse. The eCourse is 8-weeks long so his retake fee would be $800.

      • KimAlyse Popkave, M.Ed.
        June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #5159

Yes, Phillip. His probation would be lifted. However, for that third time taking the eCourse, he must pay $800 ($100 per week).

      June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #5152

In this scenario, Joseph Brea would did not pass his third attempt at taking the eCourse. What would or should you do next?

        June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #5155

If Joseph didn’t pass a course on the third attempt, I would want to find out why. In addition to the formal academic review procedures, I would want to have a 1-on-1 discussion with him to try and identify what specific issues he is facing and figure out how to best address them so that he can be successful in the future.

      Hello,

After the student has reached the 3.4 gpa then he will no longer be on academic probation. He will pay a fee of $100 after the second attempt. I’m not sure if it said $100 per week or $100 total. Anyone know?

    • Candice Thomas
      June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #5157

I see, it says per week.

    • Kimerli Sawyer
      June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #5158

$100 per week would be required to be paid until the student brings GPA up to the acceptable GPA

Joseph will have to pay 800 dollars in retake fees.

It seems Joseph has to pay $100 per week for a 8-week eCourse. The total amount he will have to pay is $800. In addition Joseph is will be place probation. Once he passes the course with the required 3.4 GPA the probation will be lifted.

      • KimAlyse Popkave, M.Ed.
        June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #7188

        Hello, Anita.

Yes, you are correct in stating that the fee to take an eCourse for the third time is $100 per week for the length of the eCourse — in this case, an 8-week eCourse, or a fee of $800.

The required GPA a student must earn to have provation lifted is 3.0. If Joseph earns that 3.4, he has more than met that requirement, and, as you stated, his probation is lifted.

    • June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #6859

      Hello Joseph,

After receiving above 3.0 would be lifted from his probation.  Because it was his 3rd time retaking the course, it would cost $800.00.

      $100 a week a total of $800

    • Dr. Monique Benjamin
      June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #7354

Joseph would need to pay $800. The cost breakdown for the 8-week course at $100/weekly would be 8(weeks)*$100(per week fee)= $800 to retake the course.

Once satisfactory grades were received, Joseph’s probation would be lifted and his standing would change from “Probation” to “Good Standing”.

        Absolutely correct, Monique!

    • June 13, 2016 at 2:18 PM #11328

Joseph Brea would pay a total of $800 in retake fees, being that the class is 8 weeks long and the retake fees are $100 per week. After the grades are recorded, he would no longer be on probation.

I agree with all the replies. It would be a total of 800.00 dollars and the probation would be lifted. I think if he failed it the first time that is when I or someone should or would  have stepped in to help him with what caused him to fail so it would allow him to pass the second time, instead of waiting for the third try and costing him money.

A1: Joseph Brea would have to pay $800 in retake fees.

Joseph Brea will now need to pay $800 and pass the class with a 3.0 GPA or better to get back into good academic standing.

Joseph would have to pay $800.00 to retake his classes and put on academic probation. If he gets his GPA above 3.0 and passes his class, he’s taken off academic probation.

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Joseph took an 8 course class 3 times. The 3rd time would need to be paid for at a rate of $100 per week. So that will mean he needs to pay $800 for the 3rd attempt because the class is 8 weeks. His initial gpa was low, prompting him to be placed on academic probation. After the third attempt he should be placed back into good standing.</p>

If Joseph had to retake an 8-week eCourse after he failed to earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher after his second attempt, the fee to retake the 8-week eCourse will be $800 because each week of an eCourse will cost $100 so a 8-week Course will total up to $800.

If Joseph received a 3.40 GPA after the third time taking the eCourse, his academic standing will change from an academic probation status to good standing.

        Hi Arisabeth,

Great job on your response that’s what exactly I read in the OTA student handbook. Joseph Brea is charged $800 for retaking an eCourse in a 8-week period.

      1. Joseph Brea completed an 8-week eCourse, he earned a 2.50 GPA the first time and was placed on academic probation. The second time he earned a 2.98 GPA. If he took the eCourse a third time. How much would he pay in retake fees?

If Joseph completed an 8-week eCourse after he failed to earn a 3.0 or higher after his second attempt, the fee to retake the 8-week course is $800 because each week the cost of an eCourse is $100 so a 8-week eCourse will equal $800.

      2. If he received a 3.40 GPA after the third time taking the eCourse, what happens to his academic standing?

If Joseph received a 3.40 GPA after taking the eCourse a third time, his academic probation changes to good standing.

        Hello Guadalupe,

Great, narrow down of the cost of eCourse $100 and 8 weeks a total of $800.00.

      1. Joseph Brea completed an 8-week eCourse, he earned a 2.50 GPA the first time and was placed on academic probation. The second time he earned a 2.98 GPA. If he took the eCourse a third time. How much would he pay in retake fees? Joseph Brea would have to pay a total of $800.00 fees for retaking the eCourse a third time. Formula 8 x $100.00=$800.00.

      2. If he received a 3.40 GPA after the third time taking eCourse, what happened to his academic standing? Joseph Brea after the third time taking the eCourse and received a 3.40 GPA will be put in “Good Standing”.

        Hello Myra,

Very true the answer is true because $800 equals to retaking an eCourse a third time. Great job this exactly what I read in the student handbook.

Josehp Brea completed an 8-week eCourse, he earned a 2.50 GPA the first time and was places on academic probation. the second tome he earned a 2.98 GPA. If he took the eCourse a third time, how much would he pay in retake fees?
He would be paying around $800 because its $100 a week for the course and over 8 weeks that totals $800.

Ife he received a 3.40 GPA after the third time taking the eCourse, what happens to his academic standing?
He should be able to return to good academic standing after completing with a 3.40 GPA.

Academic Policy Scenario: He will have to pay $800 dollars

And make sure he passes with a 3.40 in order to be on good standing with his academics.
